Larry’s 12 1/2 Year Anniversary HR with Dr. Mont 2006

Hip Resurfacing News Posted on September 19, 2018 by hipresurSeptember 19, 2018

Read Larry’s original story here.

February 14, 2018 Update

I had my right hip done in 2006 at 53 years old by Dr. Mont using a Wright C+ so I’m at the 12 1/2 year mark. No problems, no concerns, no looking back. Interesting reading some of the responses – I had a very easy time of it post op – never took any of the pain meds after leaving the hospital on the 2nd day post op, with the exception of taking one the 3rd and 4th nights to help me be comfortable and sleep. Otherwise Ibuprofen did fine for me. At my 15 day post op check I drove the 4 hours to Baltimore, walked in on one crutch, walked out on none, threw the crutch into the trunk of my car and never used it again, at least not related to the resurfacing.…

CEK’s 4 1/2 Year Update of BHR with Dr. Mont 2013

Hip Resurfacing News Posted on June 9, 2016 by hipresurJune 9, 2016

Read CEK’s Complete Story Here

…I’ve started running again.  I tried once I was cleared after the surgery but I don’t think my hip was strong enough at that point.  And truthfully I’m terrified after being told twice before I could run.  I did lots of hiking instead for a while.  But Dr. Mont is confident that if I keep doing my hip exercises (leg lifts for front, back and side), I should be fine.

But I’m finally running again – building up slowly to make sure my hip was ready.  I did 6 miles this weekend for the first time since the surgery and felt good enough that I signed up for a 10K race…

Dale Weaver’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Mont 2011

Hip Resurfacing News Posted on March 18, 2016 by hipresurMarch 18, 2016

I wanted to take the time out to thank you so much for your informative web site.

A year ago, I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis and was told that I needed a THR. Well, as a young 45 active male use to being active until the pain took over, I scheduled the THR.

However, when I started researching I came across your site www.surfacehippy.info . That is when I found Dr. Mont in Baltimore, a 2 hr drive up the road. Needless to say, I did my due diligence and watched all of the interview videos and read numerous patient stories. All from your site.

Well, after going through Dr. Mont’s physical therapy program, I made the decision that my osteoarthritis was progressing for the worse and that surgery was needed. So in late August, the surgery was done.

I am happy to report that the day after surgery I …

Wayne Dolly’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Mont 2010

Hip Resurfacing News Posted on March 18, 2016 by hipresurMarch 18, 2016

I am a 49 year old state highway heavy equipment operator. I have arthritis all through my body. Over the years my hip gave me some trouble but it would come and go until 2 1/2 years ago when it came and stayed. The pain got worse and worse until I was no longer able to hunt, fish, and on some days,  I was unable to even do my job. The deciding factor was when my wife and I could no longer enjoy our 2008 Yamaha venture motorcycle. The pain was so bad I had to stop every 30 minutes and fall off (there was no graceful way for me to get off and on the cycle anymore and my rides were becoming few and far between.

Where we live no doctor will touch anyone for hip replacement younger than 60 years old, no matter how much pain you are …

Maggie’s Bilateral Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Mont 2010

Hip Resurfacing News Posted on March 18, 2016 by hipresurMarch 18, 2016

One month ago, I lay in Sinai Hospital in Baltimore recovering from bilateral hip resurfacing a la Dr. Michael Mont. I’m a 49 year old active married professional woman 2 kids from Philadelphia with severe osteoarthritis. Your website helped lead me to Dr Mont after failing to find a surgeon I trusted in the Philly area, notwithstanding all our fine orthopedic hospitals/doctors. The three prior surgeons I interviewed were all anxious to replace my young 49 year old hips and recommended against resurfacing, citing amorphous risks of metal ion contamination and osteoporosis fracture risks. I sensed they just didn’t want to do the surgery and wondered aloud what I would do if I needed a revision in 20 years? The women in my family live well into their nineties, so this is a legitimate concern for me. I had suffered from the arthritis for about three years and acted only …

Lou Right Wright C+ April 9, 2009 Dr. Mont

Hip Resurfacing News Posted on October 29, 2014 by hipresurOctober 29, 2014

I am a semi-pro athlete(ski racing) who received a right hip resurfacing with Dr Mont on April 9, 2009. I am a pilot and opted for the anterior lat approach with Dr. Mont due to the incision and trauma not being on the “sitting areas.”

All of my pre op was done from Park City UT, so I didn’t meet anyone until the day before surgery. His assistant Jill was incredible. All of my pre op concerns were answered quickly and easily via email and phone. I showed up the day before surgery and stayed at the guesthouse at the hospital. Don’t remember the exact name, but Dr. Mont’s office will give you the name. I met with Dr. Mont and Jill and had the last of my questions answered. Dr. Mont was very assuring that I would not end up with a THR. They also let me know they …

Hip Resurfacing News Posted on October 29, 2014 by hipresurOctober 29, 2014

I had left Cormet hip resurfacing with Dr. Mont on Oct. 13, .just over a month ago, and I seem to be healing nicely. I was extraordinarily pleased with his skill. I think he is brilliant.

I am now 6.5 weeks post-op. I returned to my sedentary job 5.5 weeks post op. I still use one crutch at work, but around the house I’m full weight bearing.

I am fortunate to have two exercise devices at home that have greatly accelerated my recovery: a recumbent stationary bike (made by True, which allows the seat back to recline way back so that I can pedal non-weight bearing (from a sitting position)–in both directions, forwards and backwards–without violating the 90 degree hip restriction–though my hip restrictions were lifted after 5 weeks) and — most importantly — an Arc Trainer (made by Cybex Corp). The Arc Trainer can be full weight bearing if …

Hip Resurfacing News Posted on October 29, 2014 by hipresurOctober 29, 2014

My name is Kathleen & I wanted a chance to add my story to your site.

I am 39 years old & Dr. Mont performed left hip resurfacing on me on January 3rd 2008.

I had spent the last 25 years dealing with the progressively worsening effects of being hit by a car at the age of 14.

I had been told that a hip replacement would be necessary someday, but at age 39, was depressed to find myself in a large amount of daily pain after a day on my feet at work. My two children, ages 9 & 13 now had a Mom who could no longer play basketball, baseball, soccer or even take a long walk with them anymore. I was also having trouble climbing stairs & getting in & out of cars.…

Ben Bader Bi-Lateral 6/5/08 & 6/12/08 Dr. Mont

Hip Resurfacing News Posted on October 15, 2014 by hipresurOctober 15, 2014

Surgery Type: Bi-lateral Hip Resurfacing

Dates: Right Hip – 6/5/08, Left Hip (plus some Achilles tendon repair by Dr. Lamm) 6/12/08

Age: 47 male, 5′ 9″, 200 lbs, active before surgery

My Story:

I learned that I had Osteoarthritis on my 47th birthday November of2007. After playing basketball consistently for months my legs and body were getting stronger but I had worsening groin and hip pain. My local doctor took x-rays and determined my condition. He suggested I Stop all impact sports which, reluctantly, I did. However, after wining to a co-worker about my situation she pointed me to her racquetball partner who had his hips fixed by Dr. Mont about a year before.

Turns out that this guy had one hip resurfaced 8 years ago (as part of a study) by Dr. Amstutz and the other hip resurfaced by Dr. Mont in2006. He gave Dr. Mont the highest recommendation. …

Lefty Dr. Mont 2007

Hip Resurfacing News Posted on September 13, 2014 by hipresurSeptember 13, 2014

Lefty – 73 years young

I’m doing well nine days after my left hip was resurfaced by Dr. Mont at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore.

The first three days after surgery were somewhat discouraging, but on the fourth day I started using crutches, which I find to be MUCH preferable to a walker. I’m 73, had no one to accompany me to Baltimore from upstate New York, and live alone, so I decided to spend some time in rehab here before heading home.

Sinai Hospital kept me its “acute” rehab unit for six days and then said I was doing so well that Medicare would no longer pay for “acute” rehab, although it would pay for “sub-acute” care – so yesterday I was moved to a Genesis nursing home/rehab facility in suburban Baltimore. My current plan is to stay here until next Friday, when a friend will be available to drive …
