2019 Update. I am back to Ballooning and everything I love. Great hip resurfacing that changed my life.
September 7, 2015
I’m new to the site and thanks for everyone’s stories, it really helps getting my head in the right place for what is ahead. I’m scheduled for a BHR with Dr Eastaugh Waring in Bristol, UK on 13th November 2015. Seems I’m in a similar situation to lots on with years of playing squash and football have left me in this situation at 46, hoping this will mean I can at least put my socks on without problems at least!
My sport of choice is probably a new one on here, I don’t run or do anything particularly extreme but what I do for fun is fly a hot air balloon. Try getting out of a balloon basket when you can hardly move your leg! Ok I …

I had a slightly deformed right femur from the age of approx 11 years old either from injury or just natural – not sure- this has worn the cartilage on outside of right hip so I have bone on bone there. I found this out from Mr Treacy.
Discovered this 18 months earlier in April 2018 when I fell in snow powder and got pins and needles down my right leg next day. Had a knee scan and found it was my hip.
Was offered a total hip replacement in Harley St then saw Mr Ronan Traecy in May 2018 who recommended resurfacing.
I have kept on with road biking 60 km per week
Light Training in gym cross trainer and rower. No running
Sailing small dinghies and big boats. Hip hurt …

11 year anniversary today with left BHR – Birmingham Hip Resurfacing. Happy with the device.
I’ve been active skiing, racquetball, hunting and fishing.
-1 month post op with right BHR – Birmingham Hip Resurfacing. The right hip is not as bad as the left hip was, but it is bone on bone and I know better so I’m proceeding with the hip surgery earlier.
Looking forward to relieving that chronic ache and getting a new right hip resurfacing device for activities.…
I am a little over a year after my left hip resurfacing with Dr. Su, I have fully returned to all pre-surgery activities. I run 2-3 miles periodically, and I free weight squat and deadlift regularly and with moderately heavy weight. I occasionally have mild soreness and every now and then will experience a “clunk,” but my hip feels totally normal most of the time and feels very durable. I have converted from worrying about a full recovery to worrying about how long it will last! I hear so many stories of the implant lasting a lifetime! Here’s hoping!

So I had a metal on metal hip resurfacing by Dr. Su 10 weeks ago. 52 years old, 5’11”, 215 lbs., reasonably athletic (weighlifting and running 10ks). I had a genetically mis-shaped femoral head that caused premature cartilage degradation in my right hip to the …

Hi all. I have never seen anything on this topic anywhere in the forums and I wanted to share my story in hopes that it may help someone else. My story is very long, but for purposes here, I will keep my initial post brief and go into further detail if asked.

Well, I took the plunge for the outpatient resurfacing by Dr. Gross earlier today.
All was a great success and happy with how everything went. Currently resting up on post op Day 1 at the hotel with pain controlled.
Just visited by the visiting nurse as well…just when I thought i couldn’t be any more impressed.
Five stars all the way around for Dr. Gross and team.
Here’s the story:
41 yo male with left hip OA mild to moderate symptoms and Fapreventing favorite activities such as weighlifting, running, and martial arts.
Symptoms of stiffness and during the job when I had to stand for periods of time.
So I first sought local opinions from various Orthopaedic surgeons, who initially offered either steroid injections, stem cell injections, or total hip replacement. Tried steroid injections and PT first, with limited and temporary improvement. Then fortunately the Ortho who …

…Metal-on-metal (MoM) hip resurfacing has been used in many young, active patients, including women of childbearing age. While ion levels have been measured in mothers with MoM hip resurfacing and their babies, little is known about how these ions affect child development…

My name is David Roya.
I am a 69 year old fitness fanatic and have been for over 50 years as well as eating only healthy organic food. Never take any medicine and of course never drink or smoke. Never even had a cup of coffee in my life. I have always stayed in peak condition as a black-belt instructor in Taekwondo, instructor in yoga, as well as a runner and weight-lifter.
However, I wore out my right hip and even though I could workout for 3 hours at the gym and stretch, but it has been deteriorating for the last 9 years. Never would consider an operation. But it got to the point where I couldn’t make it down the block. Finally made up my mind to find the best surgeon.
I finally found Dr. Su at Hospital for Special surgeries. had to wait almost 6 months for an …

I figured I’d check the hips as well, for my (almost) nine year anniversary of my hip resurfacing.
The hips looked great, had blood work done for Cobalt (I guess they just track that now in that office), it came back at 1.0 with both hips.
So the progression has gone : First test – Chromium 3.4, Cobalt 3.1, After four years – Chromium 1.7, Cobalt 1.1 and now after nine years – Cobalt 1.0 Having both hips done and the bar being to stay under 7, it is very good news.
I understand that some of us have challenges after hip resurfacing surgery, all the way up to revisions, but my hopes are that all of you have happy and successful outcomes.
Thanks again to Pat for her tireless work for us and my best wishes for all hippies, new and well seasoned.…

I am 11 years 2 days post op hip resurfacing today with Dr. Gross. I received an uncemented biomet hip resurfacing replacement that Dr. Gross designed himself, at the time uncemented was fairly new but it made sense to me. The surgery was pretty easy, I was up and walking that morning, 6 weeks post op I played 18 holes of golf with my buddies and I beat them all which they have never lived down.
If you’re in pain, don’t wait, it was one of my best decisions although I waited too long.…
