PATIENT POST-OP JOURNAL: LOU ANN ROLOFF (RT. BHR 8/11/06)
Friday, August 11, 2006 – Surgery Day
“Surgery went better than expected. After waiting 1 1/2 years for resurfacing to be FDA approved, they thought they may not be able to do it (due to some cysts) but they were able to do the resurfacing. Needless to say, I am very happy!

I had nothing to eat and had not changed body position. I could not move my leg, lots of pain. I thought I was going to die and afraid that I wouldn’t!
Sunday, August 13, … Read the rest “Lou Ann Roloff Hip Resurfacing Right BHR 8/11/06 with Dr. Rogerson”

“I often think about generations past. How did people make it through middle to old age without treatment options, like we have now? I know their quality of life was greatly short-changed. We have been blessed with another chance that others didn’t have.
To my fellow HipHab Hipsters, it is my last day here at Meriter Retirement Center. Am I still sore? – Yes. Is there still stiffness? – Yes. Is there still discolorations? – Yes. Is there still some lingering pain? – Yes. Am I really well? Well…Yes. Considering I’m only 5 days removed … Read the rest “Paul Reynolds Hip Resurfacing Left BHR with Dr. Rogerson 2/2/07”
Alistair McAlpine, Ultra-runner, Writer and avid fan of this website.
I’m an ordinary guy who enjoys repetition. When I love something I do it often. By default I have become quite good at a few things, running is one. Not running races so much as running for sheer enjoyment. However in my mid-thirties while training for the Western States 100 mile endurance race I developed hip pain. I could not outrun genetics, the family curse, Osteoarthritis (right hip).
After gaining the WS100 silver buckle in 1991 (virtually on one leg due to hip complications – ouch), my hip continued to … Read the rest “Alistair McAlpine’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Tobin 2005”
JAC’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Lammens 2010
September 24, 2010
I had my left hip BHR the morning of August 12th. I feel very good now and have my 6 week checkup with Dr. Peter Lammens at Panorama Orthopedics in Golden, Colorado on Tuesday September 28th.
By the way, Did I mention that the first week after surgery really sucked? I hope I can say that.
I started Physical Therepy the second week after surgery and have been attending twice a week since. I’ve been walking un-aided for the last two weeks even though I still am weak and fatigue … Read the rest “JAC’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Lammens 2010”
Izumi’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. De Smet 2004
January 6, 2013
I had my LBHR done by Dr. DeSmet over 9 years ago. Since I have had no problems since then, I haven’t been on this sight. About 2 months ago I suddenly started having pain as well as a lot of grinding and clunking. This sight was very informative and helpful to me back then so I find myself here again in search of answers.
My recent X-rays show no problems. Cobalt/Chromium blood tests came back really high. However here is the confusing part. The joint suddenly feels a … Read the rest “Izumi’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. De Smet 2004”
Brian’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr.Callander 2013
May 15, 2013
I started running when I was still in elementary school, and loved competing in fun runs, 5ks etc. up till HS when I ran Cross Country and Track. In my senior year I started to be plagued by "leg problems". Through college I played Ultimate frisbee at a fairly competitive level and continued for 5 years after. I was also active with hiking, backpacking, surfing, mountain biking, skateboarding, yoga etc.
I first started noticing something was wrong probably at 25 when I would have a weird clicking in my hip sometimes. … Read the rest “Brian’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr.Callander 2013”
Kleinink’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Pritchett 2013
March 11, 2013
I am scheduled for a metal on poly with Dr. Pritchett next month after reading success stories and having friends in other states (all males between 49-55) having great success with resurfacing.

One week out. About to toss my very cool and blinged out Mobilegs crutches as I don’t really need them. The only trouble is the killer migraine from trying to kick the Nucynta. I tried to stop it at day 3, but the nights can be challenging. I am so glad I made the 3000 … Read the rest “Kleinink’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Pritchett 2013”
Marco Polo’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Della Valle 2013
March 30, 2013
I thought I would post some additional observations now that I am 6 days post op:
– I continue to be impressed with the organization and responsiveness of Dr. Della Valle’s office. They took care of all the details related to my return home to Michigan (home PT and a nurse to monitor my coumadin levels and vitals) and responded immediately to a question regarding my prescription.
– I am focused on staying hydrated and icing.
– While I am doing the simple stretches recommended by the … Read the rest “Marco Polo’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Della Valle 2013”
