On Sunday, June 4th, I accomplished a goal that I’ve been preparing for over a year. I successfully completed my first Tough Mudder. I have been physically, mentally and spiritually transformed in the last 12+ months. From not even being able to simply run…to now after my hip resurfacing leaping, jumping, running and climbing PAIN FREE !
Thankful to friends and family who have encouraged and applauded my hip resurfacing through it all! Your energy sustained me.
I had my right hip resurfacing in February of 2016 by Dr. Brooks and his team at the Cleveland Clinic. It was one … Read the rest “Harvey Austin’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Brooks 2016”

I would have checked in sooner. Been figuring out which position is best in the hospital bed, PT, icing, resting, debating with the nurses on pain medication, and more icing, has just been so much fun, I couldn’t get away from it.
This is day 4 ½ post-op, and following are some brief notes. I would like to expand more on pain management later on, … Read the rest “Bob’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Brooks 2013”
As of June, 2014, I am on the road back to full activity, including I believe basketball within the next six or eight weeks – no reason to push it. I’ll be 57 shortly and my BHR will be 4 years old by Christmas. I have no concerns whatsoever that this will last me a long time and enable me to do whatever the rest of my body allows!
Dr. Brooks and Phil Golnick have been great and I have never hesitated to recommend them and the BHR. I’m not a super athlete, just an old fart that always has … Read the rest “Rick Draper Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Brooks 2009”

I’m typing this from home. Surgery went great on Friday. That night I was on Percocet and oxycodone alternating every two hours. My pain was a 2 or 3 on a 10 scale. But, all that medicine caught up with me around 7:00 am. I sat on the side of the bed and looked out on to Lake Erie and thought I would throw up. Like motion sickness. They gave me an injection of something and that didn’t help so they put a patch under my ear. That knocked me out I was pretty much debilitated most … Read the rest “Nathan’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Brooks 2013”

I believe I’m the small female Dr. Brooks is referring to that had hip displasia with a tilted pelvis. It’s been 8 months since my surgery and I thank God everyday that I was a candidate for this surgery. I have absolutely no pain. I am loving life again and anxious for my annual check up! Thanks to Dr. Brooks and his most excellent team!… Read the rest “Pamela Waugh’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Brooks 2014”
I had read with great interest the input on the board regarding traveling to get the best surgeon. In making my decision, I gave a great deal of thought to seeing Dr. Gross in particular because of his reputation and experience. In the end, I went with a local (Cleveland, Ohio) surgeon. I found a number of advantages. I initially consulted with two resurfacing docs in Cleveland following a referral by my orthopedic non-surgeon doctor whose colleague recommended a MOM THR (March 07). I then went to Ron van Mierlo’s list of docs and consulted with two surgeons in Cleveland
John Kalnay’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Brooks 2009
John Kalnay is the gold medal weight lifter at Pan Am games, 5 years following his left BHR done at age 47.
August 4, 2008 I am on day 11. I had the BHR done by Dr Brooks at the Cleveland Clinic. Today is the first day I feel somewhat human. My pain has been in the front of the thigh with a lot of cramping type pain in the leg. I am only allowed to put 75% of my weight on the leg for 6 weeks after the surgery. I was surprised to hear you say that you were still on crutches.
I did not do well with the oxycondon and viocodin and have stop using them although I am having … Read the rest “Bill’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Brooks 2008”
