Diyna has always been strong. Extreme hip pain got to be too much – even for her. She underwent hip resurfacing, a bone-conserving procedure that makes it possible for young, active patients to continue doing what they love. Now Diyna never skips a workout.
I had a BMHR 4 weeks ago. The operation was broadcast live to the States as interactive training for 100 surgeons, so hopefully it is intended to be available elsewhere too, though when we don’t know, as it’s still in the early trial stage.I was born with CHD ..my femoral head was very soft because it wasn’t in the socket, hadn’t been weight bearing and had lost some of its calcium. So I wasn’t suitable for a BHR but did feel lucky to get a BMHR instead (with a dysplasia cup), because if I had gone anywhere else it
Four Year Anniversary
Four years ago today Dr. De Smet gave me my life back with a new right BHR hip. Things could not be any better with the hip. Every once in awhile I work the hip a little hard and it gets sore for a night and then the next day it is back to normal. Once or twice this past year it got squeaking on me but again I just drank a little extra water that night and it was back to normal the next day.I just can not say enough about how pleased I am
Causes of Early Failure in a Multicenter Clinical Trial of Hip Resurfacing
Paul R. Kim, MD, FRCSC, Paul E. Beaulé, MD, FRCSC, G. Yves La Laflamme, MD, FRCSC, Michael Dunbar, MD, FRCSC
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcomes and possible causes of early failure in a multicenter trial of metal-on-metal hip resurfacing. Two hundred patients were prospectively enrolled and followed for an average of 31.2 months (range, 12-54 months). Of 200 patients, 14 (7.0%) required revision surgery at a mean time of 19.5 months (range, 3-47 months). Patients with failures
Was standing on my good leg, operated leg was at about a 90 degree angle while I
put some cream on my knee. Probably bent forward and flexed my hip a bit, the
operated side knee rotated in and I started to fall. Tried to push with the
operated leg to right myself, NO STRENGTH. I collapsed and fell back, noticing a
strange friction in the hip joint after landing on my butt.
Called my surgeon’s office and they got me in right away. They took x-rays. Dr.
Rogerson said I apparently partially dislocated the hip and it re-located when … Read the rest
|August 21, 2007 I write this testimonial in the hope that it may help others, who have Osteo Arthritis of the hip, to choose the best treatment. I am a 53 year old native New Yorker. For the last 5 years I have had increasing pain in my right hip which I tried to control with exercise and less walking. In October of 2006 I was struck by a car and the subsequent x-rays revealed that the right hip arthritis was far advanced, with the left hip showing less advanced deterioration. I consulted the Head of Orthopaedic Surgery of a|
Dr. Gilbert successfully completed my BHR procedure on Monday October 29 at California Pacific Medical Center (PCMC) in San Francisco; I was his 80th BHR patient. He said my bone stock was strong, there were no complications and the follow-up xrays confirmed that the device was implemented perfectly. He said the osteoarthritis that was indicated in my May 2007 xrays had degenerated from moderate-severe to severe; my increasing pain and declining range of motion over the past few months certainly supports that finding!I am extremely pleased with EVERYTHING so far. Dr. Gilbert’s office actually acted as an advocate for

I am a clinical R.N. at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
Dr. Mitchell Sheinkop did bilateral hip resurfacings 2 months apart for me
this past July and Sept. I have rehabbed very well and expect to return to my
previous position this week. Much of the cartilage had worn away from my
femoral heads over the years especially due to being a martial artist and it
finally caught up with me even after trying numerous holistic therapies and
nutritional supplementation. The Dr. told me I was his first bilateral Pt.
and he had done 17 single … Read the rest
