July 21, 2018 – Back on the Mats, my hip resurfacing story
I had bilateral BHR performed by Dr. Keggi at CJRI/St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT this summer (L:June 10, R:July 22) and would be glad to answer questions.
I actually started the process with Dr. Brooks but, when my insurance would not cover Cleveland Clinic out of network as they had 5 surgeons in network who claimed to do the procedure, I ran that list by Dr. Brooks and he fully recommended Dr. Keggi.
For numbers, Dr. Keggi has performed about 500 direct anterior BHR and around 5000 direct anterior BHR/THR combined. Since there’s no mention of him on … Read the rest
My name is Rob, I have been reading information on this site since 2012, and never posted anything. I figured if other stories have helped me, maybe my story could help someone else ? Words cannot express how helpful this site has been to me!
Thank you Pat!
A little background…When I was a freshman in high school I was 6’4″ 265lbs, so naturally I played football and basketball. My sophomore year I had grown to be a very athletic 6’6″ and 300lbs. I ended up playing 4 years of football and basketball and received a football scholarship to Oregon … Read the rest

I am just 3 weeks post op of having my right hip resurfaced by Dr. Gross in Columbia, SC. I don’t have any nightmare stories nor have any bad press for Dr. Gross’s procedure. Actually my experience has been very good and am recovering rapidly. I am already walking unassisted around my house with little limp, mainly out of fear, though I still use the cane when walking laps around my big drive way in the country and have worked up to over one half mile already.

I am a 52 year old physician who had bilateral hip resurfacing with Dr. Su on
December 18th 2008 at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. I had been
diagnosed with moderate to severe osteoarthritis 3 years earlier and
increasingly had to deal with the pain and limitations that this brought on. I
am an avid tennis player who competes locally and in USTA tournaments and
obviously my tennis game was greatly impacted, but so were ordinary activities
of daily living such as tying shoelaces, etc.
My experience with Dr. Su, his … Read the rest
I have been hovering around your surface hippy website for quite a while now, and since I have now gone through the 1st of my 2 BHR procedures, I thought I would write and maybe help in contributing my $.02 worth. By the way, thanks very much for the work you do in maintaining the website – this is a great service to people like me!I’m a 56 year old (former) marathon runner, and have suffered from progressively worse OA in my right hip for probably 5 years. I knew I eventually needed to do something, but like a
Hi, I’m Annie from Tacoma giving an update. I had my left hip resurfaced by Dr. Bargren Nov. 11 at Allenmore Hosp. I am very happy I had it done now instead of delaying any longer. Thankfully it only had 1 cyst instead of several like my right side that was more difficult and was resurfaced by Dr Bargren March ’08.
I had spinal block with light sleep and remember waking in OR after surgery stating ” I had the best dream”, I only wish I could remember the dream, must have been good. I did remember hearing a “tap,

Saturday, December 22. 2007I’m 52 yr old male New Zealander around 90kg and 178 cm tall who has kept active and in relatively good shape.
For me the first indication of hip issues was the severe pain I felt after completing a half marathon run. From that point on I suffered a “catching” sensation which when it occurred, crippled me, albeit temporarily. Sometimes when going to stand from a sitting position I would literally lock up and not be able to move. Throughout this time I also suffered from a lot of lower back pain which
