Darlene Chissom RBHR February 4, 2009 Dr. Clarke

After years of thinking I had a bad back, in the Sept. of 08, I found out I had a bad hip instead. With moderate degeneration I knew I had to have surgery. So I researched Hip Replacements on the internet. The Birmingham Hip Resurfacing popped up and I knew this was just what I needed.

I am a professional photographer and very active. I am also only 51 years old. I don’t run marathons or play tennis, but I work really hard and I need to move unrestricted to do my job right. So I met with Dr Clarke. … Read the rest

Amie Prince BHR Dr. Clarke December 2007

I always remembered the “shoes with the bar” that I wore to bed as a kid. I had no idea why I had to wear them, what I did know is that as soon as my parents went to bed, I would untie them and take them off. I grew up remembering the shoes, but with no real health issues, I didn’t ask questions as to why I wore them. As a kid I could never sit “criss cross applesauce”, but I had agility and strength abound – so I left the … Read the rest

Larry J Sheeler BHR Dr. Clarke April 25, 2007

April 25 was my one year anniversary of hip resurfacing. I am 58 and have always been active and involved in sports. For many years I ran 2 to 3 times per week (just one to two miles). I also play baseball in some tournaments during the summer. Its not that I am an exceptional athlete or runner, it has just always been extremely important to me that I could do these things. Most importantly I love to be out with my kids and now two young grandsons, running around, playing catch or whatever. During 2006 I gradually realized I … Read the rest

I am a physical therapist from Lake
Placid, NY. I had an insidious onset of right hip pain
approximately three years ago which gradually but
progressively intensified.  X-rays revealed extensive
(bilateral DJD), and my local orthopod was all set to give
me a total hip replacement. I did an  extensive amount
of research, and came across the resurfacing technique.
Intuitively  it just made sense to preserve as much
natural bone as possible, so I  consulted with Dr
Michael Clarke in Syracuse, NY.  I had surgery on
2/28/07,  and I am scheduled to have the L one done on
4/30/08.  I … Read the rest

Susan Compton’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Clarke 2007

I had hip resurfacing for my left hip in
mid October of 2007. Four days ago I ran again – not very
far of course and on a trail rather than hard concrete – for
the first time in almost 20 years and it felt great!

I am completely pleased thus far with the
outcome of my surgery.  My surgeon was Dr. Michael
Clarke in Syracuse, NY. I can enthusiastically encourage
others to consider this procedure. I can now sleep
comfortably on either side, I am gaining flexibility in my
left hip that I have not had in years, and … Read the rest

First I talked to anesthesiologist about options. Usually they give
an epidural, but when I explained that I had had back surgery 6
years before for a bulging disk that affected my left leg and that
since the surgery some of the pain had remained. After having a new
MRI it showed that I had arthritis that now was affecting my lower
spine. During my back surgery they had tried to remove 6 benign
tumors, but … Read the rest

Paul’s Bilateral Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Clarke 2012

After two hip replacements in 5 weeks, I will hopefully never know more about hip replacement than I do now. Right now I’m 12 days post-op hip #2. Both were the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing, so may not exactly apply to you. So here’s some of the subtle and not-so-subtle things that you should known.

For me, carrying 25 lbs of recycling to the curb was hurting like hell. If you’re 25 lbs overweight, that’s the same as me carrying 50 lbs of recycling down to the curb and then hauling half of it back up to the garage. Sorry, baby; Read the rest
