I wanted to share what I believe to be a compelling story related to my BHR procedure. I received my new Birmingham hip 14 months ago from Dr. Brooks at Euclid Hospital (A Cleveland Clinic Hospital) after another physician suggested that I may be a candidate for the BHR as opposed to a total hip. I went through this procedure at Euclid Hospital under the care and direction of Dr. Peter Brooks and his team after returning from a trip to China where I was representing the USA in a team water skiing competition.… Read the rest
Dan L’s Bilateral Hip Resurfacing Dr. Brooks 2011
Update February 24, 2015
I am 3 years and 2 days away from my second BHR and bilat status, doing
incredibly well. Started a regular walking/excercise biking program this winter,
to try and avoid the winter weight gain, and have logged something around 200
miles since December. I continued to heal and get better in year 2 – 3, mostly
on the second hip. I really never notice the hip joints themselves, (well,
except when it is really cold, like most of this crazy February here in the
southern great lakes) but … Read the rest
I had a RBHR by Dr. Brooks on February 25, 2009 at Euclid Hospital-Cleveland Clinic. It has been about 8 months since my surgery and I divided my experience into categories of chronological order. Before sharing my experience, I would like you to know that I am completely satisfied with the procedure and would recommend Dr. Brooks for anyone considering a hip resurfacing.… Read the rest
About 3 years ago I started to notice range of motion issues; I couldn’t sit Indian style, hard to put my left sock on and I had some pain while walking. I attributed it to my upcoming 40th birthday. It took awhile but I came to find out that I had osteoarthritis in my left hip. About 9 months ago, in March, I knew something had to be done. I have 2 young boys that I wanted to be active with and the pain and lack of flexibility was really starting to interfere with my life.
I was really reserved … Read the rest
Hi Pat.. Found your web site and wanted to share my story.
I am a 43 female and had a RBHR on April 16th with Dr. Peter Brooks at the Cleveland Clinic Euclid Hospital. I will be at 6 weeks on Memorial Day. I have been using crutches since I got home from the hospital and I am hoping to get released to use a cane next week. I have been doing some limping without the crutches and that has been going well but Dr. Brooks also told me no walking. I am hoping to get a release to go … Read the rest
a RBHR by Dr. Peter Brooks on Dec 5th at Euclid Hospital-Cleveland
Clinic. I was very anxious before surgery thinking of course of all
the potential complications.
I came home to Tallmadge, Ohio (about 40 miles from
Hospital) on Sat afternoon. I was able to complete the tests they want
you to do for discharge. These were mostly demonstrating crutch
mobility. Sat night was very painful and I attribute that to much
activity just getting home and being under medicated.
The first few days were non descript, a lot of snoozing,
some exercises, noticed a lot of bruising, … Read the rest

I am post op day 11. I had the BHR done by Dr Brooks at the Cleveland Clinic. Today is the first day I feel somewhat human. My pain has been in the front of the thigh with a lot of cramping type pain in the leg. I am only allowed to put 75% of my weight on the leg for 6 weeks after the surgery. I was surprised to hear you say that you were still on crutches.
I did not do well with the oxycondon and viocodin and have stop using them although I am … Read the rest
