I not only finished what is arguably the most difficult full iron distance triathlon race (Challenge Full Wanaka, NZ) in the world but was honored to achieve a 2nd place award in my age group (60-69)! I want to truly thank you and your team for allowing me to accomplish this event.
Sincerely, Rich Hampton Left BHR recipient March 2006

Six Years Later.
For an athlete, the soft tissue that connects muscles and bones is like gold and oil—a limited resource to be used sparingly. Sustainable farming of tendons and ligaments is, for the moment, unsustainable.
And so it is for those of us who through use, abuse, trauma or genetic fault find the meaty soft tissue, the fluid-filled, shock absorbing soft tissue gone for good and go looking for after-market parts.
On December 13, 2007, Dr. John Rogerson of Madison, Wisconsin shaved the top of my right femur, … Read the rest

McMinn did my hip December 2011. Terrific success so far. His web site is really helpful as well.
I’m at 13 months post-op and have been running the last few months. Generally between 3-4 miles per run, 12-15 miles per week. Wide pace range (7-9 mins per mile). I remain sensitive to any pains or tweaks so just increasing slowly. Had to quit running cold in 2007 owing to OA so really just trying to … Read the rest
Dave Phelps Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Mont 2011
I had my right hip resurface February 23, 2011 by Dr. Mont in Baltimore, MD. I was 39 yrs. old at the time and dysplasia was the diagnosis. It has been a total success, I am doing things again I truly never thought possible. About 6 months post op, I started doing CrossFit workouts. This has been a complete game changer for me. When I started CrossFit (11/11) I weighed 198lbs, in January (1/12) I changed my diet to a Paleo model and began losing weight. I got down to 176lbs (at … Read the rest

I’m an ordinary guy who enjoys repetition. When I love something I do it often. By default I have become quite good at a few things, running is one. Not running races so much as running for sheer enjoyment. However in my mid-thirties while training for the Western States 100 mile endurance race I developed hip pain. I could not outrun genetics, the family curse, Osteoarthritis (right hip).
After gaining the WS100 silver buckle in 1991 (virtually on one leg due to hip complications – ouch), my hip continued to … Read the rest

Arrojos Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Su 2012
April 9, 2012
Hello from Arrojos hospital bed! Did indeed have it done today. Dr. Su told me this morning, the worst that could happen due to my past week is that I’d feel lousy. I told him I am already going to feel lousy! Lets just do it!
At 4:00 I was in a lot of pain. But now (10:00) I feel pretty good! I am even doing leg exercises in bed (ankle pumps and heel drags). I know I know don’t overdo it. Walking tomorrow!
