Prior to bilateral hip resurfacing my hips were hurting and in constant pain. I was uncomfortable sleeping. It was challenging to get in and out of the truck and hard to drive. Kneeling down to plant a tree was miserable which made being an arborist very challenging.
Now 6 months out from my most recent BHR hip resurfacing I CAN DO IT ALL!
People were so great at Stoughton Hospital. They provided me with good, attentive care. The admitting nurse even visited me in the room 24 hours later! That demonstrates a caring person.
HipHab is the best laid out … Read the rest
John S’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Palmer 2008
November 19, 2008
7 Hours post-op.
Per my Doc, it was a text book BHR. I did the spinal thing, and am glad I did. I remember waking up after a general feeling like I was run over by a truck. The only part that was uncomfortable was the spinal wearing off. But on a scale of 1 to 10, I’d make that a 2.
I was standing after 4 hours doing my first PT. And just a few minutes ago walked (with walker) to the bathroom.
I am on percocet and … Read the rest
John’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Gross 2008
December 7, 2008
Happy to be on the other side of the resurfacing surgery. Experience with Dr. Gross was excellent, small hospital catered to hip patients, food was, well hospital food, but not too bad.
Tips to those that follow:
1) Stay at the Residence Inn, better than the Marriott. We stayed at M Courtyard before and during (my wife) and we moved into the Residence Inn on discharge.
2) If possible, stay a few days post discharge. I am glad I did not have to do anything
yesterday than do my walks, … Read the rest

I have played Hockey for 45 of my 51 years of age and I guess this is where the body starts to breakdown but I am looking forward to getting my life back without a limp and severe pain..

Jim’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Romash 2008
February 25, 2011
I had a hip resfacing done by Dr. Romash in November 2008. I just went back to him for my two-year check. He said the implant looked exactly the same as the day he put it in. He did a great job and now I have no pain and 100% mobility. I realized the other day that I now move around without thinking of my hip. As we all know, that is a big thing. I do about 2 miles, three time per week on the treadmill and that is … Read the rest
Ashley Selman’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Vail 2013
Uploaded on Jul 22, 2013
Ashley Selman — part drill sergeant, part cheerleader — met every grunt and bead of sweat in her training studio with encouragement.
“Good job!” she yelled. “Great form!”
Selman, whose successful career as a fitness trainer developed from her love of sports, was finishing up her last day at work before a scheduled hip replacement surgery.
At the age of 43, she is an unlikely candidate for this type of procedure. But the former collegiate athlete’s hip troubles go back almost 30 years, when she injured her … Read the rest
John’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Brooks 2012
December 12, 2012
Today marks 14 days Post Op with Dr. Brooks. I woke up in the OR as they were finishing the glue and putting on the bandage. As they wheeled me into Recovery, Dr. Brooks came over and handed me my X-Ray and simply said, "Perfect." I love it when a Dr. says that. He was obviously proud of the surgery and placement and knew what I wanted my activity level to be Post Op.
Just had my ultrasound and everything is fine so far, no blood clots. I was in … Read the rest
