The last two years have brought increasing groin pain, instability, and popping/clunking on a regular basis. Two months before my 4th anniversary I became so alarmed at the consistent instability that I obtained x-rays and cobalt and chromium blood tests. Patient advocate, Vicky Marlow, had several surgeons review them for possible causes of my pain and instability. The following are excerpts from the surgeon’s emails:1. She needs a revision ASAP before the neck on the femur breaks
2. Neck narrowing due to high ions and there will be some acetabular osteolysis at revision. Yes, … Read the rest
I wanted to take the time out to thank you so much for your informative web site.
A year ago, I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis and was told that I needed a THR. Well, as a young 45 active male use to being active until the pain took over, I scheduled the THR.
However, when I started researching I came across your site www.surfacehippy.info . That is when I found Dr. Mont in Baltimore, a 2 hr drive up the road. Needless to say, I did my due diligence and watched all of the interview videos and read numerous patient … Read the rest
I am a 49 year old state highway heavy equipment operator. I have arthritis all through my body. Over the years my hip gave me some trouble but it would come and go until 2 1/2 years ago when it came and stayed. The pain got worse and worse until I was no longer able to hunt, fish, and on some days, I was unable to even do my job. The deciding factor was when my wife and I could no longer enjoy our 2008 Yamaha venture motorcycle. The pain was so bad I had to stop every 30 minutes … Read the rest
One month ago, I lay in Sinai Hospital in Baltimore recovering from bilateral hip resurfacing a la Dr. Michael Mont. I’m a 49 year old active married professional woman 2 kids from Philadelphia with severe osteoarthritis. Your website helped lead me to Dr Mont after failing to find a surgeon I trusted in the Philly area, notwithstanding all our fine orthopedic hospitals/doctors. The three prior surgeons I interviewed were all anxious to replace my young 49 year old hips and recommended against resurfacing, citing amorphous risks of metal ion contamination and osteoporosis fracture risks. I sensed they just didn’t want … Read the rest
My name is Dustin and I received an LBHR on 6/18/12. I am 24 years old and have not had anyone to talk to around my age about surgery/recovery from a BHR.
My surgeon is Dr. Schmitt based out of the DMC in southeastern Michigan.
I am now 3 days post op and feeling pretty good. I am home and did really well with PT in the hospital. After the first session they told me I didn’t need to go to PT in the hospital anymore and sent me out. I have been trying to get around as much as … Read the rest

I had my left BHR surgery with Dr. Schmitt on 16-Nov-10 and it went well. I started walking with a walker on the second day and went home on 18-Nov. No too much pain. Incision is healing well.
Today’s is day 5 and swelling is pretty extensive in the area of the operated thigh above the knee though no extensive pain, just discomfort because of swelling. Per Dr. Schmitt’s instructions I am wearing stockings and administer Arixtra blood thinner shots. I am taking 200 mg Advil to reduce swelling.

I’m about to do my LBHR with Dr. Philip Schmitt in metro Detroit. He’s done about 700 BHRs so far, and according to his office he’s got a great success rate – only 6 failures/revisions.I apparently was born with femoracetabular impingement & have arthritis (10y+ at 41 y.o), and over the last year or so it’s degraded on the left side to where I can’t easily lift the leg up stairs, or do the other stuff ya’ll know full well about. It got down to bone-on-bone, and through my anti-inflammatories & light pain meds, it’s been… Read the rest
